Kent County is soliciting bids for residential asbestos abatement, duct work encapsulation, electrical system upgrade, and removal and replacement of the water heater at 1570 Queen Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. The project includes removal of materials known or presumed to contain asbestos; contractors must confirm quantities independently. State of Michigan Asbestos Program licensing is required if removing or encapsulating more than 160 square feet or 260 linear feet of friable asbestos-containing material. A final visual inspection and air clearance exam by an independent firm, approved by Kent County, are required upon completion of asbestos abatement activities. Contractors must obtain and post all necessary permits and licenses, maintain insurance including environmental/pollution liability, and provide a one-year warranty on materials and workmanship, in addition to manufacturer warranties transferred to the homeowner. Submissions must include verification of an active State of Michigan Asbestos Abatement Contractor License and reference compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements. Any individual or company within Michigan that is hired to remove or encapsulate friable asbestos above that level must be licensed by the State of Michigan Asbestos Program before engaging in any asbestos abatement activities.
