Site work for a water / sewer project in Houston, Texas. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
Project will be to remove and replace the existing Control/Chemical Buildings at Water Plant Nos. 2 and 3. Work will include the removal and replacement of all chemical and electrical items inside the buildings. See Plans and Specifications for a full description of the scope of work. a. The Work. The work consists of providing the necessary labor, materials, equipment, supervision, and plan to construct Water Plant Nos. 2 & 3 Motor Control Center Replacement. The work at Water Plant No. 2 includes demolition and replacement of the existing Motor Control Center (MCC) Building; replacement and relocation of the existing chemical storage and chemical treatment equipment to the new MCC Building; replacement and relocation of the existing surface water chloramination booster system; electrical, instruments, and controls; protective coatings; concrete pavement, driveway and sidewalks; hydro-mulch seeding; and all additional items shown on the construction plans or needed for a completely functional water plant. The work at Water Plant No. 3 includes demolition and replacement of the existing Motor Control Center (MCC) Building; replacement and relocation of the existing chemical storage and chemical treatment equipment to the new MCC Building; electrical, instruments, and controls; protective coatings; concrete pavement, driveway and sidewalks; hydro-mulch seeding; and all additional items shown on the construction plans or needed for a completely functional water plant. a. Execute cutting (including excavating and backfilling), fitting or patching of the work required to: (1) Make several parts fit properly. (2) Uncover work to provide for installation of ill-timed work. (3) Remove and replace defective work. (4) Remove and replace work not conforming to requirements of the contract documents. (5) Remove samples of installed work as specified for testing. (6) Install specified work in existing construction. b. In addition to contract requirements, upon written instruction of the Engineer: (1) Uncover work to provide for observation of covered work. (2) Remove samples of installed materials for testing. (3) Remove work to provide for alteration of existing work. c. Do not endanger any work by cutting or altering the work or any part of it. d. Do not cut or alter the work of another Contractor without written consent by the Engineer. e. Prior to cutting which affects structural safety of the project, or the work of another Contractor, secure written approval by the Engineer. The work includes demolition of materials and equipment. Demolition work includes removal of the following items: A. General Work Items and Utilities. 1. Portion of existing Water Plant No. 2 asphalt pavement 2. Existing Water Plant No. 2 Motor Control Center (MCC) Building, adjacent sidewalk slab, adjacent doorway sidewalk, and equipment and appurtenances in and on the building 3. Portion of existing Water Plant No. 3 asphalt pavement 4. Existing Water Plant No. 3 Motor Control Center (MCC) Building, adjacent doorway sidewalks, and equipment and appurtenances in and on the building 5. Existing Water Plant No. 3 abandoned concrete fuel containment structure including any remaining abandoned fuel lines between the equipment slab and fuel containment structure 6. Existing Water Plant No. 3 abandoned concrete equipment slab B. Electrical Work Items. 1. Existing Motor Control Center and internal components of Existing Building as shown for WP Nos. 2 and 3. Provide pipe and valve identification markers or stencils as specified identifying all proposed plant piping and valves (above and below ground) throughout the plant site. All signs shall be stated in English and shall include arrows indicating the direction of flow. Every aboveground pipe shall be coated entirely in the Owner selected color. All pipes shall have flow direction arrows and process labels. All proposed above ground pipes shall have pipe insulation to protect against freezing. Insulation shall be fitted around pipe, and wrapped with tape, with UV resistant adhesive labels. Valves and equipment shall be labeled as per the Process & Instrumentation Diagrams or as approved by the Engineer. A. The Contractor shall procure the services of a Process Control System Supplier (PCSS) to furnish and install all materials, equipment, labor and services, required to achieve a fully integrated and operational system as specified herein, in the Specification Sections listed below, and in related drawings, except for those services and materials specifically noted. 1. Section No Title 13330 Control Panels and Panel Mounted Equipment 13340 Instruments B. Items specifically excluded from the scope include the following: C. Auxiliary and accessory devices necessary for system operation or performance, such as transducers, relays, signal amplifiers, intrinsic safety barriers, signal isolators, software, and drivers to interface with existing equipment or equipment provided by others under other Sections of these specifications, shall be included whether they are shown on the Drawings or not. D. All equipment and installations shall satisfy applicable Federal, State and local codes. E. Use the equipment, instrument, and loop numbering scheme shown on the Drawings and specifications in the development of the submittals. Do not deviate from or modify the numbering scheme without the Engineer's approval. A. Refer to [Section 13300]. B. Furnish and install control panels and panel mounted equipment as specified herein and shown on the Drawings. C. All new panels and panel components shall match existing equipment makes and models wherever possible, so that system additions can be most easily integrated with respect to operation and maintenance training, spare parts inventory, and service contracts. Even when exact matches are not possible, equipment furnished must be fully compatible with the existing system. Color, size, and material of new panels should conform to that of existing panels. D. Each panel shall be supplied with full sub-panels with the minimum specified dimensions regardless of the quantity of mounted components inside the panel. All panel mounted components shall be mounted on the single rear-ofpanel sub-panel unless the density of devices exceeds the panel mounting space permitted by the minimum panel dimensions specified. Side panel mounted components shall only be permitted after review and approval of the Engineer. E. Furnish the following panels 1. PANEL SCHEDULE Panel Designation Minimum Panel Size Maximum Space Available Enclosure Rating & Type Autosensory Panel 90-inch high by 48-inch wide by 20-inch deep 120-inch high by 48- inch wide by 24-inch deep NEMA Type 1, single or double door, steel construction, free standing. Front Access Only A. Inspection Of Site 1. The accompanying drawings do not indicate existing mechanical installations other than to identify modifications of and extensions thereof. Site visits and installation inspections to ascertain the conditions to be met are included in the scope. 2. Failure to comply with an inspection of the site shall not constitute ground for any additional payments in connection with removing or modifying any part of the existing installations and/or installing any new work under this Division. B. Products and Materials Description 1. Where two (2) or more units of the same kind or class of a specific item are required, these shall be the products of a single manufacturer; however, the component parts of the item need not be the products of one (1) manufacturer. 2. In describing the various products and materials, in general each item will be described singularly, even though there may be a multiplicity of identical items. Also, where the description is only general in nature, exact sizes, duties, space arrangements, horsepower requirements and other data shall be determined by reference to the Documents. C. Refer to other Divisions of the Specifications for related Work. D. Install, hang, support, etc. all mechanical systems and equipment to satisfy all requirements of the applicable seismic zone using performance requirements and design criteria for project site as indicated by Owneris Representative. E. It is the intent, unless otherwise indicated, that all products and materials described and specified under this Division, shall be provided for a complete working system irrespective of use of the phrases iinstalli, ifurnishi, ifurnish and installi, or iprovidei as described above has been actually included. F. The Contractor is responsible for all Work of every description in connection with this Division of the Specifications. G. The Contractor specifically and distinctly assumes all risk for damage or injury from whatever cause to property or person used or employed on or in connection with this Work and of all damages or injury to any person or property wherever located, resulting from an action or operation under the Contract in connection with the Work, and undertake the promise to defend the Owner against all claims on account of any such damage or injury. H. The Contractor will be held responsible for the satisfactory execution and completion of the Work in accordance with the true intent of the Documents. I. Provide without extra charge all incidental items required as part of the Work, even though it may not be specifically indicated. If the Contractor has reason for objecting to the use of any material, equipment, device or method of construction as indicated, he shall make report of such objections to the Owner's Representative, obtain proper approval and adjustment to the Contract, and shall proceed with the Work.
