Renovation of an educational facility in Huntsville, Alabama. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.
As of April 07, 2026, the project was awarded to Metro Mechanical Services, Inc, with an awarded amount of $416,486.84. Sealed bids are sought from General Contractors to provide labor, equipment, and materials for cooling tower replacement at Huntsville High School, 2304 Billie Watkins Ave., Huntsville, Alabama. All bidders bidding in amounts exceeding that established by the State Licensing Board for General Contractors must be licensed under the provisions of Title 34, Chapter 8, Code of Alabama, and must show evidence of license before bidding. Bidders must also be licensed in the City of Huntsville, County of Madison, Alabama, and possess all required insurance. Installation permits through the state of Alabama Department of Labor and necessary local permits for all work performed are the responsibility of the bidder. A certified check or bid bond payable to Huntsville City Schools in an amount not less than five percent of the bid, but not exceeding $10,000, must accompany the bid. Performance and payment bonds are required before work commences. Potential and successful bidders must adhere to all rules and regulations of the Alabama State Licensing Board for General Contractors and the Alabama Public Works Law. Scope of Work: 1. Contractor will disconnect, haul off, and dispose of existing Evapco Cooling Tower. 2. Contractor will replace Evapco Cooling Tower Model: ATW 334-3L-2 with Contractor provided Cooling Tower. Huntsville City Schools request' a hybrid closed circuit cooler with stainless steel basins. Brand preferences are Evapco or Marley SPX. Any needed modifications to concrete pad for tower base must be provided by the contractor. 3. Contractor will relocate and/or run new supply and return closed loop water lines as needed. Contractor will be responsible for tying in preexisting chemical feed lines as well as basin drain piping. 4. Preexisting Spray pump starters and controls, as well as Tower Fan VFD's will be replaced with contractor provided equipment. VFD Brand preferences are ABB. 5. Contractor will be responsible for all and any additional electrical work. Contractor will be responsible for tying in preexisting heat tape on closed loop water piping. 6. Contractor will be responsible for testing safety devices upon completion. Flow switch, vibration, electrical overcurrent or phase loss. B. Damages, Repairs, and Clean-Up 1. Any Damages made to the building or equipment during the project will be the contractor's responsibility to repair. 2. Any water leaks or electrical issues caused during construction will be the contractor's responsibility to repair. 3. Any trash, scrap piping and electrical must be cleaned up by the contractor. 4. Any scrap or trash left outside by cooling tower area in parking lot will be cleaned up by contractor. 5. Any issues found by the contractor or needed repairs outside the scope of work must be coordinated with Huntsville City Schools. C. Start-Up and Permits 1. Contractor will be responsible for coordinating with vendor on start-up. Contractor will be responsible for providing equipment manuals, warranty, and paperwork. The contractor will provide owner training as well. 2. Contractor will be responsible for providing installation permits through the State of Alabama Department of Labor. Contractor must carry a GC license as well as a mechanical license.
