The City of Carson is seeking proposals from qualified firms to provide full mechanical, electrical, structural, and controls engineering services to develop a microgrid and comprehensive HVAC facility upgrades to enable operation of the site as a cooling center. Services must include the design and integration of microgrid components, anticipated to consist of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems (both roof-mounted and carport/canopy-mounted), battery storage systems, microgrid controls, switchgear, electrical infrastructure upgrades, and upgrades of the existing diesel generator to a natural gas generator, all coordinated to operate as a unified system. The microgrid shall be sized and designed to support the facility's operation as a cooling center, including HVAC systems and essential functions, and shall not be limited solely to minimum critical loads. This RFP does not commit the City of Carson to award a contract or to pay any costs incurred in the preparation of a response. All responses become the property of the City and, once a selection is made, may be considered public records, subject to disclosure under the California Public Records Act--except for those elements lawfully exempt from disclosure.
