The work involves playground design and installation services for Kent Hills Elementary, Cesar Chavez Elementary, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Academy. The project includes providing professional design and installation expertise for playground renovation at these schools. Work includes all tasks associated with creating a safe and properly functioning playground such as landscaping, hardscape, excavation, debris removal, and the relocation of existing equipment as required. Bidders must provide at least two design options with costs for each playground, including play layouts and full-color three-dimensional drawings. Equipment lists with lead times, descriptions, and color/finish options must accompany each design. Playgrounds must feature barrier-free accessible equipment and play opportunities. Lump sum price proposals are required. The scope covers demolition and removal of old playground equipment, provision of barrier-free equipment for special education needs, on-site coordination, and two options for surfacing at play equipment. Work includes meetings with administration, regular public updates, daily coordination, weekly progress meetings, protection of adjacent property, cleanup, obtaining permits, compliance with safety standards, final cleaning, and provision of operation and maintenance manuals. All equipment must be installed by ANSI certified installers and final certification from a certified playground safety inspector is required. Installation should occur during the summer window when the buildings are unoccupied and must be completed more than two weeks before the start of the school year to allow for a final punch list and owner acceptance.GRPS issues this RFP in its process to obtain Playground Design and Installation services for the renovation of elementary school playgrounds at the following (3) locations - Kent Hills Elementary, Cesar Chavez Elementary and Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Academy. The building currently includes Special Education classrooms and PreK classrooms. The projected budget for this project is $450,000 and is inclusive for all work as shown & described, including play equipment, surfacing and site work. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Academy, 645 Logan St SE, Grand Rapids The grade levels served include PreK through 8th grade, with a maximum capacity of approximately 513 students. The building currently includes Special Education classrooms and PreK classrooms. The projected budget for this project is $450,000 and is inclusive for all work as shown & described, including play equipment, surfacing and site work. Successful completion of this project will include the following work. Installation must be completed while the building is unoccupied. Allotted Installation Time will be June 4, 2026 -August 7, 2026. Work must be scheduled for the week immediately following the last day of school in the spring and must be completed more than (2) weeks before school begins in the fall. Successful completion of the project includes completion of Punch List items as required prior to Owner acceptance.
