The Museum of the Great Plains, Lawton OK, a municipal trust of the City of Lawton, seeks proposals from qualified fine art and museum relocation firms to manage the packing and transport of its permanent collection. The collection must be moved to a temporary facility 1.5 miles away to accommodate major building renovations. Scope of Work Vendor will provide all labor, materials, and equipment, to safely pack and transport a diverse museum collection. 1. Inventory Summary: Approximately 12,000 square feet of collections storage. 2. Collection diversity: A mixed collection, including archaeology, archives, photographs, historic objects, ethnographic materials, art, and natural history. a. 6,000+ boxes of varying sizes and weights. b. 4,600+ linear feet of archival records and manuscripts. 3. Large objects & furniture: A significant number of oversized items, including historical furniture; mechanical and agricultural objects; and other large or bulky items; that may require customized pallets or specialized crates. 4. Exhibit components: Approximately 1,300 square feet of exhibit furniture, including cases, text panels, and interactive components. 5. Storage & filing: Numerous storage cabinets, file cabinets, flat files, and shelving units, of various sizes. 6. Logistics: Distance of 1.5 miles from origin facility to destination facility. 7. Access: No loading docks at either facility. Lift-gate trucks or specialized ramping required. 8. Storage status: Collection will remain packed at off-site facility for duration of renovation. a. Twenty-six thousand 26,000 square feet of retail space at storage location; approximately 17,000 square feet available for collections storage. i. Square footage divided among six discrete spaces, some non-adjacent. b. Proposal will provide for shelving or stacking system that utilizes vertical space ranging from nine to twelve feet. c. Vendor will coordinate with museum staff, Central Plaza (offsite location) staff, and City of Lawton Fire Marshal, to ensure storage conditions meet local code.
