U-Step Project No. UST-065-4(185)--4A-77 Project No. 125.0975.01, 125.0953.01A, 125.0953.01A-2 The project is located on 33rd Street NW, 34th Avenue NW, and 20th Avenue NW in the City of Altoona and unincorporated portions of Polk County. The work includes approximately 18,752 CY of topsoil onsite, 23,648 CY of Class 10 Excavation, 35,042 CY of Excavation (Class 10 Contractor Furnish), 41,221 SY of 12" Subgrade Preparation, 10,527 SY of cement soil stabilization, 41,221 SY of 8" thick Modified Subbase, various sizes and types of sanitary and storm sewer installation, water main work, subdrain installation, fire hydrants, pavement, curbs, gutters, traffic signs, and pavement markings. Temporary traffic control, seeding, fertilizing, mulching, and erosion controls are also included. A bid alternate (additive) includes additional sanitary sewer work and erosion control items. Each bidder must submit bid security as defined in Iowa Code Section 26.8, and the successful bidder is required to furnish a corporate surety bond in the amount equal to 100% of the contract price. The bid shall contain no condition except as provided in the specifications. The City of Altoona reserves the right to defer acceptance of any bid for sixty calendar days after receipt. Good faith efforts must be made to solicit bids from registered Targeted Small Businesses, which must be documented on the completed forms and included in the bid proposal. Failure to return completed forms will result in a non-responsive bid. Preference will be given to Iowa products, provisions, and labor, as required by law. Nonresident bidders are subject to reciprocal preferences. The City reserves the right to reject any or all bids, waive informalities, and enter into such contracts as deemed in its best interest. Project milestones include specific completion deadlines for water main availability, substantial completion with roadway open to traffic, and final completion for seeding, site restoration, and pavement markings, with liquidated damages specified for missed deadlines.
