Renovation of a detention facility in Norwalk, Connecticut. Completed plans call for the renovation of a detention facility.
The City of Norwalk is requesting bids for the selective demolition and restoration of the Smith Street Jail at 35 Smith Street, Norwalk, CT. RFI/QUESTION DEADLINE: 2:00 PM 03/13/2026 All questions concerning this solicitation must be directed, via e-mail, to Chris McCauley, Purchasing Officer at cmccauley@norwalkct.gov. Project Summary and Scope of Work shall include but not be limited to: 1. Selective demolition partitions, doors and miscellaneous existing building items; saw cutting of slab and masonry wall. 2. Renovation of existing two story and attic spaces with all architectural, mechanical, plumbing, electric and fire protection elements and systems as shown on drawings. 3. All work under this contract shall be warranted for a period of (2) two years, in addition to warranties required under specific conditions of this Specification. 4. Photographic documentation of existing conditions and new work. The information in the Project Manual, including drawings, defines a scope of work and is intended as a source of information to bidders. In addition to the items noted above, the following items are included and required under the contract: 1. Provide and pay for all items, materials, operations or methods listed or mentioned and required, including all permits, licenses, labor, materials, equipment, tools and incidentals necessary and required for completion of all work. 2. Coordinate work as required with any other trades to provide code approved removal and/or termination of all existing mechanical and electrical elements. 3. Provide and pay for all water, heat, and utilities required for construction. 4. Provide and pay for all other facilities and services necessary for proper execution and completion of the work. 5. Give required notices. 6. Comply with codes, ordinances, rules, regulations, orders and other legal requirements of public authorities which bear on performance of the work. 7. Promptly submit written notice to Architect of observed variance of Contract Documents from legal requirements. It is not the Contractor's responsibility to make certain that drawings and specifications comply with codes and regulations. 8. Enforce strict discipline and good order among employees. Do not employ unfit persons or persons not skilled in assigned task(s). *The list of planholders and/or interested bidders is not being tracked by the stakeholders involved with this project.
