The work consists of the remediation of the outdoor wood deck and patio paver areas on the south and east faces of the Bill and Hellen Norrie Library. Major components include the removal, storage, and re-use of undamaged existing wood floor joists and patio pavers; removal and disposal of damaged wood floor joists, wood built-up beams, and damaged patio pavers; removal of existing subgrade to eliminate organic material and rebuilding the subgrade; removal and replacement of the existing granular base beneath the wood deck and patio; supply and installation of wood members and patio pavers as needed to replace damaged sections; supply and installation of new wood decking and built-up wood beams; supply and installation of new catch basins, non-perforated drainpipes, and perforated weeping tile; regrading existing planting beds as necessary; salvaging, cleaning, and stockpiling of existing unit pavers for the walkway between the deck and parking lot (approximately 19 m2), recompletion of the walkway base, reinstallation of edge restraints and pavers with new bedding sand to ensure the pavers are flush with the surrounding grade. Contractors must coordinate with the Authority Having Jurisdiction regarding possible impacts on building egress routes, with potential phasing of the patio work to maintain exit access as required.
