Mow and trim the lawn area of the grounds, approximately 33.5 acres per cycle, with an estimated 30 mowing cycles for the season. Mow using commercial grade turf type equipment between 48" and 72" wide; push type mowers may be used for trimming. Mow grass to a minimum height of 3" and correct any uneven mowing. Remove or disperse grass clippings if mowing is delayed resulting in build-up. Perform trimming around mulched areas, trees, picnic table pads, trash containers, curbs, signposts, and other obstacles after each mowing cycle, and blow or sweep clippings off concrete surfaces. Trimming along concrete edges is required to keep growth from encroaching. Only use herbicides for growth in cracks. Mulching landscape plantings, beds, and trees with #1 shredded hardwood mulch (aged at least six months, free of foreign materials, wood preservatives, and weed seed) to a depth of 4" and a distance of at least 36" from trunks or stems. Mulch individual trees in a "doughnut" shape. Remove weeds before mulching. The approximate mulched area is 46,000 square feet. All mulch materials to be approved by the Department, which will also direct timing and placement locations. Apply pre-emergent and post-emergent weed control to mulched areas and landscape planting beds to prevent germination and emergence of weed seed. Approved pre-emergent herbicides include 'Gallery' by Corteva and 'Pendulum' by BASF or equivalents, applied at recommended rates with approved equipment. Post-emergent herbicide (e.g., Round-Up Pro by Bayer) may be applied to mulched areas around trees only. The Department will approve all herbicide materials and direct application timing and locations. Certified and licensed pesticide applicators are required. Additional tasks include landscape insect control using approved insecticides, trimming and pruning of shrubs and trees as required for health and appearance, removal of dead trees and shrubs, application of fertilizer to specified areas, leaf removal from fine turf, bi-weekly hand weeding of specified planting beds, and seeding or other general grounds work as directed. The Department will identify all locations and timing for these activities, and will approve all materials and methods prior to work.
