Please be advised: This single industry day will cover two separate and distinct projects, which will be solicited independently: the NASA Wallops Breakwater Project and the NASA Wallops Beach Renourishment Project. Construction of two to four breakwaters along the beach at Wallops Island, placed approximately 200 feet offshore on 12-inch-thick marine mattress with geotextile fabric. Each breakwater will consist of approximately 10,000 tons of Type II riprap armor stone and VDOT Class III core stone, placed in water depths ranging from -9.5 feet to -12 feet NAVD88 and built to a crest height of +7 feet NAVD88. Work may be performed and materials transported by land or sea. Construction activities will be subject to restrictions related to active rocket launches requiring temporary site evacuation. The work includes all associated construction activities required for full installation and completion in accordance with project plans and specifications. estimated construction price range for this project is between $25,000,000 and $100,000,000. Beach nourishment at Wallops Island using hopper dredge equipment, with dredging occurring within Unnamed Shoal A to a maximum depth of seven feet below existing bottom. Existing bottom depths within the borrow area range from -34 feet NAVD88 to -60 feet NAVD88. Dredged material will be transported approximately eleven miles to the placement site and discharged by hydraulic pump-off along the beach. The work includes grading the nourished beach to required elevations and dimensions, conducting pre- and post-placement hydrographic surveys, managing dredging and placement operations, and coordinating with maritime users to reduce impacts to vessel traffic, adjacent structures, and concurrent dredging activities. The estimated required pay volume is between 1,500,000 and 2,500,000 cubic yards of material retained on the beach. Estimated construction price range for this project is between $25,000,000 and $100,000,000.
