The Henry County Public Service Authority owns and operates a water filtration plant at 590 Philpott Drive, Bassett, VA. The water plant collects solids from filter backwash and sediment basin wash outs into a bentonite clay bottom lagoon of approximately 1 acre surface area. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has set a specific limit on the volume of solids allowed to be stored in the lagoon before cleaning. The contractor awarded the job will be required to remove and dispose of as much of the solids from within the alum sludge lagoon as possible. It will be the contractor's responsibility to estimate the amount of solids to be removed.
