Description

Metra is undertaking a $156 million, systemwide capital construction program across its 11 commuter rail lines in 2026. The program includes improvements to 20 passenger stations, replacement of 22 rail crossings, track and tie replacements, bridge work, and extensive signal, electrical, and communications upgrades. Work will be performed by Metra in-house crews, freight railroad partners, municipalities, and private contractors, with construction largely scheduled during off-peak and weekend periods to minimize service disruption.
