The Duty Site is located between State Route 697 and Knox Creek near its confluence with Pawpaw Creek. The site is approximately three miles northwest of the town of Hurley in Buchanan County, Virginia and can be accessed from State Route 697. The approximate project center coordinates are 37 27' 18.22" N 82 03' 15.40" W. The site is reclaimed abandoned mine lands with typical slopes of 2:1. Soil conditions vary from shallow rocky soils to loose uncompacted material.
