The Western Addition Community Safe Streets project is a neighborhood-wide traffic safety and connectivity initiative led by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency in San Francisco’s Western Addition. The project includes two coordinated components: Traffic Signal Upgrades at 16 intersections and Street Safety Improvements throughout the neighborhood. Scope includes upgraded traffic signals with larger signal heads and mast arms, pedestrian countdown and accessible audible signals, updated streetlighting and curb ramps, pedestrian-activated flashing beacons at multiple locations, a radar speed sign, reduced speed limits on eligible corridors, and quick-build safety treatments such as crosswalk upgrades, daylighting, advanced limit lines, pedestrian head starts, longer walk times, turn calming, and painted safety zones. The work implements recommendations from the Western Addition Community-Based Transportation Plan and supports the City’s Vision Zero goals, with most locations situated on the High Injury Network.
