Site work for a water / sewer project in Largo, Florida. Conceptual plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

The Brookside neighborhood, situated east of Belcher Road, north of East Bay, and south of Allens Creek, comprises 114 homes. A grass-lined roadside ditch runs approximately 2,025 linear feet between Scarsdale Drive and Westbury Drive, ultimately discharging into Allen Creek within the Allens Creek Basin. This ditch collects rainwater from several stormwater inlets within the neighborhood, as well as additional runoff from areas beyond the neighborhood. Contributing areas include the Holiday Ranch mobile home park, with 149 mobile homes located south of Ashbury Drive, and four properties near Haddon Hall Place. Flooding frequently affects roadways in the area, such as Ashbury Drive and Riverside Drive South. Due to increasing storm intensity and rising sea levels, the area south of the ditch has experienced frequent flooding of structures and roadways. Currently, four stormwater systems in this area contribute drainage to the ditch, two of which are significantly undersized to handle the required capacity. To address these issues, the project will involve upsizing storm structures to enhance pipeline capacity along Ashbury Dr, Armon Dr and Riverside Dr S, thereby reducing flood risks. The ditch is proposed to remain an open-channel drainage system, with plans to be reconstructed and regraded to maximize storage capacity. Additionally, slope stabilization measures, such as the potential use of gabion basket retaining walls, will be explored to prevent erosion and improve the ditch's overall efficiency in managing stormwater. The project is included in the City's 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of April 18,2026, further details have not yet been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
