The Venetian Gardens neighborhood has five (5) stormwater drainage systems each with a distinct outfall which drains the neighborhood to nearby Allens Creek. Persistent flooding backups occur after large storm events coupled with high tides or storm surge in the nearby creek. This condition will grow worse over time given climate change impacts. Further investigation into the Long Bow Lane drainage patterns to the north will be important information obtained during this project to determine what if any effect this area has on the Venetian Gardens drainage system as a whole. Additionally, there is corrugated metal pipe (CMP) in two of the drainage systems. CMP is at the end of its lifespan across the City. Should a segment of CMP fail in the immediate short-term future, localized neighborhood flooding would occur with any size storm event regardless of the creek’s flood stage. If this situation were to occur prior to an engineering study (preliminary engineering report), the failed pipe segment would likely have to be replaced twice, once as an emergency repair and a second time with the correct calculated diameter. The project scope proposed to resolve this situation is a two step multiphase project that includes: • Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) and Design Services - Includes stormwater modeling of the creek, asset condition assessments and collection system recommended improvements along with preliminary cost estimates. Design services would include the preferred alternative from the PER. The final drawing set could be broken into distinct drainage system packages for phased construction over a number of fiscal years. • Construction – Up to five phases, one for each drainage system, ranked first by the amount of corrugated metal pipe present then second by the number of homes protected. The project is included in the City's 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
