The Town of Brighton is soliciting bids from qualified contractors for a high pressure line cap project on Cross Street. The purpose of this project is to ensure the safe closure of a line to prevent future flooding. The project involves an abandoned lead service line with a gooseneck connected to the watermain, which previously froze and ruptured resulting in flooding. A temporary cap was placed, but the line requires removal from the main line. The scope of work includes: coordination with Digsafe; location and mapping of existing utilities; use of certified flagging company within the roadway; coordination with Vermont Electric Coop for utility pole stabilization; coordination with H2O Innovation for water shut off and pressure relief; removal of the abandoned pipe; pressure testing and backfill to ensure stabilization; coordination of line flushing and boil water notice; complete cleanup and site prep for concrete, topsoil, seed, and hay; notification to H2O Innovation for water quality testing; use of trench box at the dig site; and final cleanup and inspection with the Town of Brighton representative and H2O Innovation. Special considerations include project timing related to local events.
