Site work for a water / sewer project in Stanton, North Dakota. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

The project involves a comprehensive replacement and upgrade of the sanitary sewer infrastructure serving the Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site (NHS) Visitor Center located in Stanton, North Dakota. Work includes replacement of exterior sanitary plumbing systems, select interior sanitary piping, reconstruction of the lift station and valve vault, and installation of a new septic disposal system. The existing sanitary system, originally constructed in 1992, has experienced chronic operational failures due to oversized piping, insufficient pipe slope, and inconsistent sewer routing configurations. These deficiencies have resulted in inadequate solids transport, recurring backups, and multiple catastrophic sewage discharge events within the facility. Project work includes: Installation of new interior sewer piping beneath both building floors Replacement and reconfiguration of exterior sanitary sewer piping Reconstruction of the lift station and valve vault with new mechanical and electrical components integrated into the existing system Installation of a new septic system, including septic tank(s), cleanouts, distribution box, dosing components, and absorption trenches Correction of improper sewer flow routing and insufficient piping slope conditions The project is critical to mitigating ongoing public health, operational, and safety concerns affecting Visitor Center staff, visitors, and protected museum and storage spaces. Previous sewer failures have caused sewage discharges within museum collection areas, storage rooms, and floor drains, resulting in property damage, temporary facility closures, and maintenance-intensive emergency responses. Project Location Knife River Indian Villages NHS Visitor Center 564 County Road 37 Stanton, ND 58571 GPS Coordinates: N47 33' 15" W101 38' 58" Magnitude: Between $500,000 and $1,000,000. *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document.
