This project consists of multi-modal safety and pavement improvements along approximately 12.7 miles of the North Rim Road and associated scenic routes. The work is intended to restore roadway infrastructure affected by fire damage and age through pavement preservation activities, including structural patching, asphalt and concrete pavement repairs, and thin overlay treatments to stabilize and extend the service life of existing road surfaces. The project also includes localized drainage and ditch improvements, excavation, placement of riprap, and installation of pipe culverts with end sections to address roadway drainage deficiencies. Roadside safety enhancements are a significant component of the work and include removal and replacement of fire-damaged guardrail systems with new steel-post guardrail, installation of terminal sections, and corridor-wide safety upgrades. Additional scope includes installation of new regulatory and warning signage, pavement markings consisting of solid and broken striping, and placement of delineators to improve visibility and roadway guidance. The project further provides for winter readiness and access control through installation of snow poles, culvert delineators, and road closure gates at side roads and the primary entrance. All work requires coordination of temporary traffic control, maintenance of access, and timely completion within the seasonal construction window, with emphasis on quality pavement preservation, safety improvements, and durable infrastructure upgrades suitable for a high-elevation national park environment.
