Site work and paving for a road / highway in Ames, Iowa. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway.
The general nature of the work on which bids are requested includes: 28,377 SY of pavement removal, 16,494 LF of curb and gutter, 3,898 TON of HMA base course, 5,268 TON of HMA intermediate and surface course, 597 LF of 8 PVC water main, 13,193 LF of 6 subdrain, storm sewer intake and manhole replacement, sanitary manhole replacement, major and minor structure adjustments, and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances in accordance with the contract documents. For item specifics and quantities, refer to sheet C.01 in the plans. All bids must be submitted on the Proposal Form furnished by the City of Ames, in a sealed and plainly marked envelope. Each bidder must accompany the bid with bid security as defined in Code of Iowa Section 26.8 and as specified in the Instructions to Bidders. The contractor must not include sales or use taxes in the bid. Building materials incorporated into real property for this project can be purchased tax-free. The successful bidder will be required to provide information for themselves, subcontractors, and suppliers requiring tax exemption certificates. A corporate surety bond equal to 100% of the contract price is required, guaranteeing performance and payment of material and labor, protection for the City from claims and damages, and maintenance of the improvement in good repair for two years (four years for new paving) from completion and acceptance by the City. Work is to commence as soon as possible after award and approval of the contract and performance bond. Completion dates are set for November 30, 2026, for Kentucky Avenue, Illinois Avenue, and Indiana Avenue, and November 30, 2027, for Hillcrest Avenue, Ellis Street, Oklahoma Drive, and Delaware Avenue. Liquidated damages of $1,000 per calendar day will be assessed for delays. Preference will be given to products, provisions, and labor from Iowa as lawfully required. Minority business enterprises will be given full opportunity to submit bids and will not be discriminated against based on race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in consideration for an award. The City reserves the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities, and to enter into contracts as deemed in the Citys best interest.
