The general nature of the work includes: 1815 linear feet of water main installed by trenchless method (PVC, 8-inch diameter), 811 linear feet of water main installed by trenched method (PVC, 8-inch diameter), 317.8 square yards of sidewalk removal, 300.8 square yards of sidewalk installation using Portland cement concrete at 4 inches depth, 193.9 square yards of full depth patch, and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances in accordance with the contract documents. Bids must be submitted on the Proposal Form provided, in a sealed and clearly marked envelope. Each bid must be accompanied by bid security as defined by Code of Iowa Section 26.8 and specified in the Instructions to Bidders. The successful bidder must provide a corporate surety bond equal to 100% of the contract price, guaranteeing faithful performance, prompt payment, protection of the City from claims and damages, and maintenance of the improvement for two years (four years for new paving) after completion and acceptance. Work must begin as soon as possible after contract approval and be completed by November 13, 2026, for Barr Drive, and June 25, 2027, for Douglas Avenue & 17th Street. Liquidated damages of $1,000 per calendar day will be assessed for failure to complete on time. The contractor should not include sales or use tax in the bid; tax exemption certificates for building materials will be provided. The City reserves the right to reject any or all bids, waive informalities, and award the contract in the best interest of the City.
