A federally funded border barrier project is planned to construct a near-continuous primary border wall consisting of approximately 30-foot-tall steel bollards and associated river buoy systems through the Salineno Wildlife Preserve along the Rio Grande in Salineño, Texas. The project is sponsored by the federal government through U.S. Customs and Border Protection following passage of the “Big Beautiful Bill,” which allocated $46.5 billion for border wall infrastructure across the Southwest border. New CBP maps indicate the wall alignment will cut directly through environmentally sensitive refuge land, potentially impacting historic landscapes, wildlife habitat, and community access to the river.
