The City of Seattle is seeking qualifications for Professional Architectural/Engineering Consultant Services for the Seattle Animal Shelter Design. The project involves planning for a new approximately 50,000 square foot Seattle Animal Shelter on City-owned property to replace the existing Interbay shelter, which is outdated. The objective is to create a modern, purpose-built facility reflecting best practices in animal welfare, expanding veterinary and community services, and providing a safe, welcoming environment for animals, staff, volunteers, and the public. The scope also includes site planning considerations for potential co-location of the Seattle Police Department’s Canine (K9) Unit, requiring physically separated indoor and outdoor spaces. The selected consultant team will lead programming and predesign, refine space requirements, assess site and operational considerations, and support public engagement to create a strong foundation for future design.
