The City of El Cerrito is considering construction of a new, modern public library facility of approximately 20,000 square feet on leased land adjacent to the El Cerrito Plaza BART Station, potentially integrated into the ground floor of a large mixed-use housing development. The project is estimated at approximately $37 million and would replace the city’s existing 1948 Stockton Avenue library, providing expanded community, event, and public-use space contingent on voter approval of Measure C and subsequent bond financing.
