The work consists of safely dismantling, removing, and disposing of an existing 40-ton air-cooled chiller, associated refrigerant, and air handling unit (AHU), and furnishing, installing, and commissioning a new 40-ton air-cooled Trane chiller and matching Trane AHU to restore optimal environmental control. The new system shall utilize R-134A refrigerant or an approved equivalent, and the contractor shall ensure the equipment is properly grounded. The scope may require the use of a crane to remove and install equipment. The contractor shall update the Direct Digital Control (DDC) system as necessary to integrate with the new chiller and AHU. The project includes evaluating the existing concrete pad located northwest of Building 42 for reuse; if the new unit dimensions differ, the contractor shall expand the pad as needed. Electrical systems shall be verified and upgraded as required to meet the new equipment standards, utilizing the existing 460V power supply with 500 kcmil conductors. The replacement chiller shall feature high-efficiency scroll or rotary compressor design with factory-mounted controls compatible with existing building automation systems, and the AHU shall include matched 40-ton capacity, variable frequency drives for supply and return fans, and a modular design to fit the existing mechanical room footprint.
