Renovation of a medical facility in Hamilton, Ontario. Completed plans call for the renovation of a medical facility.
McMaster University is planning to proceed with a comprehensive renovation and revitalization of the Life Science Building to modernize laboratory environments, renew aging infrastructure, and enhance research and teaching capabilities. The building will remain partially occupied during construction, including ongoing operations in the vivarium and greenhouse areas. The Life Science Building is a five-storey academic and research facility, approximately 107,000 square feet in size, originally constructed in the 1970s. The facility supports undergraduate teaching, advanced research laboratories, and associated academic and support spaces. The estimated construction budget is approximately $27 million, with construction anticipated to take place from August 2026 to July 2028. This RFSQ represents Stage 1 of a two-stage procurement process. Prequalified respondents will be invited to participate in Stage 2 - Request for Quotation (RFQ) for specific trade packages issued by the Construction Manager. Contractors interested in the retrofit of existing spaces and renewal of major building systems, including but not limited to the scopes listed below are invited to respond in writing: - Demolition - Require experience working with type-1 hazardous materials - Building Envelope Upgrades (Windows) - Mechanical (HVAC) System Replacement - Electrical Systems Renewal - Laboratory Casework and Fume Hoods - Floor Finish Replacement - New Partitions, Doors and Hardware, and Painting The following documentation must be submitted: (1) Fully completed CCDC Document No. 11 (R2019) (2) WSIB CAD-7 (past injury frequency performance) (3) Health & Safety Policy & Program (4) Confirmation of any involvement in an Adjudication claim in the past three years. If so, provide details and nature of the claim(s). (5) Resumes of Site Foreman and Project Manager proposed for this project and why their experience would be a good fit for this project. McMaster University and Aquicon Construction Co. Ltd. reserve the right to select only those proponents which are deemed suitable and qualified to undertake this project. The prequalification process does not constitute any obligation on the part of McMaster University or Aquicon Construction Co. Ltd. to prequalify and enter into a subcontract agreement with any proponent. Only the proponents deemed qualified to perform on the project.
