Site work, new construction and addition to a fire / police facility in Saint Bernard, Louisiana. Completed plans call for the addition of a 15,643-square-foot, three-story above grade fire / police facility.

The project scope includes the construction of a three-story addition to the existing fire station on an approximately 1.25-acre site at 3901 Bayou Rd, St. Bernard, LA 70085. The proposed project will include the construction of an approximately 15,643 square feet new fire station building with associated access drive, parking, utilities, and accessories. The existing fire station and parking area south of the proposed project area will not be demolished, and the proposed project will supplement existing facilities. The proposed project area is bounded by LA 46 to the north, Fire Station Road to the west, a concrete levee wall to the east, and a gravel drive/parking area to the south. The proposed project would impact approximately 1 acre of FFRMS floodplain considering temporary work space and would permanently impact approximately 0.75 acres of FFRMS floodplain. Based on a review of National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) data, the project would impact zero acres of wetlands. SBPG rejected the no action alternative as it would not improve emergency response and public safety in the project area. SBPG attempted to identify an area outside of the FFRMS floodplain to locate the proposed fire station, however, all possible areas that would serve the area in need of increased emergency resources were found to be located within the FFRMS floodplain. After coordination with agencies, reviewing alternatives following an early public notice period in which no responses were received, and the fact that the proposed work would improve emergency response and public safety to development located previously in the floodplain, SBPG determined that it has no practicable alternative to floodplain development.
