With the onset of COVID in 2020, we were unable to utilize our backup site to socially distance our staff because we shared space with EMS responders who were in regular contact with COVID-19-positive patients. We cannot have a backup site that we cannot utilize in a shared space with independent access. Having a backup 911 site is necessary to provide seamless 911 and dispatch services to those in Rock County. From pandemics to natural disasters, 911 and dispatch services are the first line of Public Safety in Rock County, and having a backup site accessible when needed is just as important as our main site. Therefore, it has become necessary to start researching new locations. Ideally, we would use a county-owned facility that would need a small addition/renovation and a small radio tower. This location would be far enough away from the primary center that it would not be affected if there were a natural disaster. Relocating is the initial idea and must be investigated much further before determining the best location. Therefore, the cost is just an estimate. Our current lease with the Town of Beloit expires on February 28, 2030. The project is included in the city 2027 - 2031 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
