The Runway 18-36 project involves shortening the runway by ~1,000' at the approach end of 36 to eliminate a "hot spot," constructing a new perpendicular taxiway, and replacing outdated runway edge lights with LEDs. Deferred by the state in April 2024 and again in 2026 pending federal approval of the Airport Layout Plan, this project aligns with FAA safety priorities and qualifies for federal funding with a 5% local share. Initial project formulation and design at 50/50, reimbursable. Runway pavement is in need of mill & overlay, likely not federal/state funded due to current rulings on eligibility and justification. Anticipated future request to have this be locally funded. This aligns with the County's strategic plan by maintaining existing infrastructure along with satisfying our federal grant assurances. The project is included in the city 2027 - 2031 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
