Reference Number 0000429893 This critical project addresses the frequent and damaging flooding caused by runoff from the Book Cliffs through Douglas Wash. This uncontrolled runoff currently impacts developed residential and agricultural properties both upstream and downstream of Interstate 70. The proposed project involves the final design of two strategically designed detention ponds engineered to effectively manage 100-year flood events. These structures will significantly reduce peak discharge rates and eliminate the destructive flow of debris and med that currently accompanies these flooding events. Mesa County has already taken the initial steps to advance this essential flood mitigation initiative. The hydrologic analysis and conceptual plans for the detention ponds have been successfully completed during the first phase of design. This preliminary work provides a solid foundation for the final design phase.
