Hangar 6 was constructed in 1976 and is a concrete block, steel framed structure with insulated metal paneling for siding. The original roof was a low-sloped hot mopped product consisting of bitumen (asphalt) and felt material that created a durable and waterproof layer. However, a 1996 Hangar 6 Re-Roofing project tested portions of the original roof for Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) and results came back positive. No abatement records could be found but design drawings indicated the Contractor would be abating the roof prior to installing the new roof. Plans show the roof was upgraded to be an Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) roof. Work for this Proposed action includes remove and disposal of existing roof materials (60 mil roofing membrane made from EPDM and any damaged substructure materials that from a previous 1996 roof replacement project are known to be 1/2" Oriented Strand Board (OSD), 5 1/2 " Type II Expanded Polystyrene Insulation, 10 mil Poly VR/AIR Barrier). Contractor will install a new roof with similar or better materials, in accordance with appropriate Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), Internal Building Codes (IBC) and any other applicable Federal , State, Local or Military requirements. There are approximately 18 exterior doors and 9 exterior windows to be replaced with a similar or improved product. New siding shall match existing color and material type. Per Army and National Guard Bureau policies and procedures, any proposed action with a federal connection is required to be evaluated for potential impacts to the environment and human health. Below are project specific requirements.
