Site work, paving and new construction of a mixed-use development in Port Clements, British Columbia. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a medical facility.
The existing morgue is a repurposed outbuilding from CFB Masset which closed in 1997 and served as body storage at Masset Hospital until the new hospital was built. There are no water/sewer services which is an infection control problem and the space is inadequate for Haida cultural practices. Project scope would include a new build at the Southern corner, with a footprint of approximately 50sqm. This would include new construction and requires water/sewer/power/data/security cameras/Wifi for Vocera, concrete apron/walks to link NHGH, gravel replacing lawn for parking. There is a desire to closely replicate the existing morgue located at the Haida Gwaii Hospital located in Daajing Giids (photos and drawings attached). As this will be a new structure not attached to the facility there will be little impact to existing services, outside of when connecting the new structure to any existing infrastructure. A parking pad (preferably concrete but may also be compacted gravel) will need to be built next to the north face of the morgue, for a minimum of 6 vehicles and a hearse. Specialty timber local to the area (old-growth red cedar) will need to be procured and used for the front door, sidings, purlins, corner columns, and the semi-exposed roof rafters. Historically, these materials have been handled by local wood workers and are required to be for this project as well. A preferred list of wood workers will be provided by the Council of Haida Nation for procurement by the contractor. TIMELINE: Request for Proposals is underway to provide design services for the project. The current stage of the project is to achieve a complete Schematic Design drawing set and proceed with a Class C Quantity Survey. Design beyond the Schematic Design phase should be included in the Appendix C Cost Table, but may not happen immediately following Schematic Design. Official bid documents must be obtained from www.merx.com and bid submissions must be done through the Merx platform. *Reference Number: 00005177762
