Demolition, site work, renovation and addition to an educational facility in Charlottesville, Virginia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a 43,243-square-foot educational facility.
The scope of the Smith Building Renovation includes the renovation of approximately 43,243 square feet of the former Sponsor's Hall/former hotel into an office building. The project includes the five Pavilions at the corner of Duffy and Darden Blvd. The project will include a full interior renovation with select exterior improvements. For clarity, the Pavilions will be labeled I, II, III, IV, and V starting with the northern most pavilion and the connecting building portions referred to as hyphens. Construction is estimated to begin in September 2021 with a 12 month schedule. The project will be designed to achieve LEED certification under Version 4 of the New Construction (NC) rating system. The grade around the building slopes west to east with entry at grade on the first, second, and third floors. The primary entry/exit into the building is on the third floor off Darden Boulevard and secondary entries/exits are on the first and second floors. The North building addition is approximately 400 square feet. The addition will have steel structure with brick and PVC cladding. Pavilion 5 and connecting hyphen will be modified to have an open floor plan and will require shoring and select demolition of the corridor floor.
