Upgrades and repairs to the 660-MW power generation station to ensure that it will be able to operate to its intended 100-year lifespan until 2068 through equipment maintenance and replacement. The scope of the project includes the replacement of six turbine in the powerhouse and an expense of $100-million for upgrades for fish passage. The scope is expected to involve the following components: Controlling water with grouting and surface sealing; Repairing damaged and deteriorated concrete including gate guides, bridges and rollways; Replacement of assorted mechanical and electrical components including gates, cranes, pumps, piping, cabling and controls; Removing and replacing six turbines; Modifying powerhouse superstructure; and Installation of multi-species fish passage. TIMELINE: Detailed design is at least 30% complete. Environmental Impact Assessment was approved summer 2025. The Mactaquac Life Achievement Project Act received Royal Assent December 2025, and lays out framework which will allow the project to proceed; project approvals are still required. The Act exempts the project from bonding requirements of the Construction Remedies Act; designates it as a major project under the Industrial Regulations Act; exempts procurements related to the project from the Procurement Act; and provides certainty to federal funding instruments.
