HDR Engineering has provided recommendations for drainage improvements to provide stormwater relief for local residents affected by flooding during high intensity, short duration storm events. Upon review of these recommendations, City staff formulated a schedule of projects to be completed. The first of these projects, to construct an adequate outlet pipe to Perry Creek, was constructed in 2011. Additionally, new pipes and inlets are being added along Douglas St and Pierce St. The second project to be scheduled out of this study will be full reconstruction along 34th Street from Jackson Street to Perry Creek. This project will either require full reconstruction of the street, water, and sanitary and storm sewer from 30th & Pierce to 31st & Grandview or the purchase of homes and rebuild the storm sewer on the current alignment, which may be the cheaper option. The project is included in the city's 2023-2027 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of June 30, 2022, a design engineer has been selected. Bidding is anticipated to take place in the fall of 2023 and construction to start in the spring of 2024. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
