Construction of a secondary transmission line to deliver power to West Kelowna and Peachland. Three options are being considered for development. Option 1 - a new transmission line west of Okanagan Lake connecting the Westbank Substation to the Vernon Terminal Substation. Option 2 - a new transmission line from Nicola Substation to Westbank Substation using a different route than the existing transmission line. Option 3 - a new transmission line, including a submarine cable across Okanagan Lake, connecting Westbank Substation to the FortisBC system. TIMELINE: Project in planning and pending budget approval. A detailed review and evaluation of alternatives for the project has been completed. Alternative 2 that involves a new transmission line from the Westbank Substation to Nicola Substation using a different route than the existing transmission line remains the leading alternative. Due to the cost and complexity associated with these network upgrades, its determined with FortisBC that Alternative 3d would not be feasible. Owner will continue to work with FortisBC on the remaining alternatives (3a, 3b, 3c) interconnecting to their system in Kelowna and plan to confirm either Alternative 2 or a connection to the FortisBC system in Kelowna as leading alternative soon.
