Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in Kingston, Ontario. Completed plans call for the construction of a 22,875-square-foot, one-story above grade clubhouse / community center; and for site work for a clubhouse / community center.
https://www.thewhig.com/news/local-news/city-officials-break-ground-on-kingston-east-community-centre December 11 People in the city's east end will soon have a new place to gather. City officials, including Mayor Bryan Paterson and Pittsburgh District Coun. Ryan Boehme, broke ground Wednesday morning on the $13.5-million Kingston East Community Centre at 779 Highway 15 in Grenadier Park, just north of La Salle Secondary School. "I'm delighted to see shovels in the ground for the new east-end community centre," Paterson said in a statement. "As mayor, ensuring our east-end residents are connected and have the services they need is a priority, and this centre is overdue." Once completed, the 22,000-square-foot facility will offer a full-size gymnasium, fitness centre, community kitchen, multipurpose rooms, meeting rooms, splash pad, outdoor rink and an emergency reception centre. "It will be a great community builder and neighbuorhood resource for our east-end residents," Paterson said. "The new centre will bring some great services to the east end," Boehme added. "There will be programming from the (Kingston) Seniors Association and the Boys and Girls Club (of Kingston and Area). It will be a great asset to the area and will help to bring the community together and give us a great building for use by all." According to the city, the centre will be built to achieve higher energy efficiencies and will substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions -- measures that will also offer significant savings on operational costs on an ongoing basis, a news release said. Some of the energy efficiencies include a geothermal heating and cooling system, LED lighting and rooftop solar photovoltaic technology. A council report on the project last month noted that a typical building of this type would emit approximately 73 tonnes of carbon dioxide greenhouse gas per year and have an estimated annual operating cost of $70,000. The planned greenhouse gas reduction measures will reduce emissions by 86 per cent and offer a projected annual cost savings of $38,000 a year to run the facility. M. Sullivan & Son Ltd. will construct the centre, which was designed by the Ventin Group. The facility is expected to be completed sometime in 2021. "This building will definitely fill a void and help to connect us with the rest of the city and provide many services that we do not currently have," Boehme said. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Provision of construction services to build a new 2,126 m2 Kingston East Community Centre at Grenadier Park at 779 Highway 15, Kingston, Ontario. The new building within this Request for Proposal (RFP) will be steel-framed over a slab on grade with a combination of footings and piers. The new community centre will be comprised of a large central gymnasium surrounded by a walking track, multipurpose rooms, community kitchen, office and administration, EarlyOn drop-in centre, fitness center, change room/washroom facilities and storage spaces/rooms. Site improvements are comprised of site servicing, storm water management, civil works, grading for a skating rink, splash pad and a geothermal field located under the parking lot. The building is designed for a high level of energy-efficiency with a geothermal field and a roof structure that will be solar ready, a high performance building envelope and LED lighting throughout.
