Overview The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and La Paz County are rehabilitating the Farmers Bridge to improve safety, accessibility and traffic flow to the community of Cibola and its surrounding agricultural communities. The Farmers Bridge was constructed in 1981 with funds by local farmers. The $1,460,000 bridge rehabilitation project includes removing and replacing existing bridge railing and roadway approach guardrail, construction of new concrete end blocks, repair and reinforcement of abutment cap beams, installation of steel decking, polymer epoxy deck overlay, asphalt paving, storm drain, signing and other related work. ADOT is performing the work on behalf of La Paz County, which owns the bridge. Project Area The project is located in Imperial County, California, 13.3 miles south of Interstate 10 in Blythe, CA,and 2.3 miles north of the community of Cibola in La Paz County where the bridge spans the Colorado River. What to expect: The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the temporary full closure of Farmers Bridge. The closure, already in place, is scheduled through Sunday, April 25. Drivers should plan to use detour routes and allow extra travel time while the temporary closure is in place. North and southbound traffic will be detoured on CA HWY 78 to Oxbow Bridge. As of November 13, 2020 work in underway. An awarded designer and contractor are unknown.
