Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in Edson, Alberta. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a two-story above grade stadium; fitness / recreation center; and swimming pool.
Scope of work includes construction of a multi-use recreation complex. Plans call for a new facility to include two NHL-sized ice rinks; an aquatics facility with a 6 lane/25 metre pool, child pool and lazy river, waterslide, hot tub and sauna/steam room; 4-sheet curling surface; a multi-court gymnasium; walking track and fitness area; meeting spaces and multi-use rooms; a leisure skating pond; concession; and a lease space for private paramedical services. Development site yet to be finalized. The facility will be built at a site north of the Hillendale subdivision. TIMELINE: A Request for Proposals from shortlisted Design-Build contractors closed at the owner on March 25, 2022 however, submissions were over budget and both bids were rejected by the owner. The owners are now considering the possibility of renovating Town's of Edson's existing Leisure Centre instead of a new build (project is being followed separately). Coverage of this report is discontinued at this time. Shortlisted bidders included: Clark Builders & TBD Architecture + Urban Planning; and EllisDon & Stantec + HCMA; and PCL & GEC Architecture. NOTE: Total budget is $70 million. Project is a collaboration between Yellowhead County and the Town of Edson.
