Redesign of the existing facility that will increase moorage space by 50% and improve access at the downtown Nanaimo boat basin marina. The redesigned marina will have the same overall footprint, but will use slip moorage instead of alongside moorage allowing for the 50-plus per cent increase in moorage space. Plans also call for the fuel dock to be repositioned out to the marina entrance to improve access for larger vessels. The phased construction will be done while managing existing tenants and users. TIMELINE: Project is on hold, pending funding approval. Concept designs are complete. Bathymetry and subsurface sonar studies are complete. Business case study and market study are underway. Federal government grant application is pending approval. The project is intended to be built in phases over five years, starting with the outside northerly floats. All schedules for tender and construction will depend on funding being in place. InterTidal Design of Saltspring Island prepared the concept plans for the marina, as well as an environmental assessment and bathymetry and subsurface investigations.
