As of August 14, 2024, final design is nearing completion. Construction is set to begin this winter. A general contractor has been identified. This regional project will include planning, design, improvement, and construction of water lines and related facilities for the Littlewater Chapter to connect to the Beacon Bisti N9 Lateral (transmission supply line) of the Navajo Gallup Water Supply Project. Littlewater Chapter, along with Becenti, Coyote Canyon, Standing Rock, Crownpoint, White Rock and Nahodishgish Chapters are communities currently located along the proposed transmission pipeline and are teaming to seek funds to connect into this pipeline. The Navajo Nation will own the supply line and Navajo Tribal Utility Authority will operate and maintain all new and existing systems. The Navajo Nation will be the fiscal agent. The project will provide a reliable water source by developing and enhancing the communities water systems in this region as groundwater supplies diminish. The Project will be implemented in 3 phases for the proposed Beacon Bisti N9 Lateral to connect Littlewater Chapters existing water distribution system that currently serves more than 300 residents. Phase 1 will include completing the remaining activities for preliminary engineering. The preliminary engineering will identify alternatives and provide recommendations to upgrade and/or improve the existing water distribution system and its proposed connection to the supply line. Phase 2 includes acquiring the necessary easements and ROWs, archaeological and environmental clearances, required surveys, permitting, and design. Phase 3 will include the construction of the proposed facilities, supply line, waterline extensions, and/or improvements to the existing water distribution systems or related facilities. Currently, the regional project has been contracted utilizing Navajo Nation procurement. This project is in the FY 2023-2027 Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
