The Pike River restoration project within Petrifying Springs Park will improve the water quality, habitat and ecological functioning of the Pike River and its riparian zone. This will result in the reduction of elevated total suspended solids and sediment-bound nutrients that are transported to the river mouth and nearshore area of Lake Michigan. The proposed multi-phase project will control streambank erosion, improve instream habitat and use native vegetation to stabilize and improve filtration of the riparian area. Pike River Phases I and II were completed in 2019 and 2021 respectfully. Design for Phase III is complete with construction anticipated in 2025 once all grants/donations awards have been confirmed. In the 2024 capital improvement plan, $3.3 million in spending authority was approved with $1.5 million in funding offsets. The funds listed in 2025 are in addition to those totals. As of February 17, 2025, this project is in the Kenosha County's FY 2025 Capital Budget. Further information regarding a design firm or timeline for construction has not yet been established.
