There has been some water damage due to storm water runoff where the outside edge of the Laurier Bridge sidewalk comes into contact with the building. The de-icing salt used on the bridge has adversely affected the areas of the building adjacent to the bridge. The most significant damage is found around the entrance to the hydro vault at the South end of the building. The infiltration of de-icing salt and water from the bridge have severely corroded many of the metal components and produced rust stains which are visible throughout the vault. The south electrical vault, which partially extends underneath Laurier Bridge, is showing major deterioration where the outside edge of the bridge meets the exterior wall of the building. Almost every metal component within the space located below this joint is showing heavy signs of corrosion or salt build-up. A study was done (GOC604180) to investigate these issues along with few other issues in the area and the report provides several viable options to address the deterioration of the steel and concrete components near or within the electrical vault at the south side of the building where it abuts the Laurier Avenue Bridge. The report also addresses the structural components of the space, the recommendations to repair or replace any parts of the air handling system due to their extensive damage. This project is to implement the recommendations from the study.
