New construction, renovation and addition to a fire / police facility in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont. Working plans call for the renovation of a fire / police facility; and for the addition of a 1,500-square-foot fire / police facility.

City officials are proceeding towards renovating the armory on Main Street to turn it into a potential police and dispatch center. As of July 2, 2025, this project is on indefinite hold as the Police Department lost $2M in USDA funding and bond vote failed to make up the difference. The architect has reduced the concept to make it more financially palatable. A construction manager has been selected. A timeline for construction has yet to be announced. The Town of St Johnsbury has begun the work to convert the old Armory building at 1249 Main St for use as a new Public Safety Facility accommodating the municipal police station and regional emergency dispatch center. Major components of the existing building have already been removed to make way for new construction. Extensive abatement operations have also been completed in the remaining front building section scheduled for renovations. The new construction project consists of an interior rebuild of the existing front section of the building and a multi-story 1,500SF addition in the rear. All work within the existing and new addition is considered new construction and comprised of concrete footings, steel framing, concrete decks, masonry elevator shaft, windows, roofing, doors/hardware, metal stud framing, finishes, elevator, fire protection, mechanical, electrical and associated sitework including new utilities (water, waste, stormwater, electric, tel/data) and geothermal wells. Sitework will commence from the current post-demolition state.
