As of April 16, 2025, the County Board of Supervisors canceled this project as of February 4, 2025, due to challenges with land acquisition, environmental concerns, historic property considerations, and escalating costs. This project includes constructing a bypass to existing Route 28 that will extend Godwin Drive as a four-lane divided roadway with a shared-use path. The bypass will run parallel to Flat Branch and Bull Run streams and connect with Route 28 at a signalized intersection north of Bull Run Stream.
