This project involves the rehabilitation of an existing vehicular bridge for reuse as a pedestrian and bicyclist bridge over the Conestoga River to provide a connection between the Conestoga Pines Park and the Walnut Street Fishing Area within the City of Lancaster. The proposed structure is the existing Waterworks Bridge. The 204 long, three-span, steel thru-girder bridge was originally constructed in 1912 and its center span was rebuilt in 1973 after flooding event. The bridge is designed for combined pedestrian/bicycle use and will remain posted at 3 tons. Activities include repairing/replacing deteriorated steel members and connections, installing concrete curb and bicycle railing, painting the structure, paving bridge deck and approaches, as well as well as other miscellaneous construction items, all contained within an overall project length of 497.24 linear feet (0.095 mile) of SR 1094 (Pleasure Road) and Shared Use Trail as indicated on the approved drawings included in the Bid Package.
