Renovation of a municipal facility in Aurora, Colorado. Completed plans call for the renovation of a municipal facility.
The City of Aurora is seeking opportunities to reduce its carbon footprint and energy operating expenses through renewable energy. Preliminary screening assessments were performed at a number of Aurora Water locations and led to the selection of Tank #1 at the Robertsdale Pumping Station as the first location for system implementation. The Robertsdale Pumping Station Tank #1, built in 2010, is a 10 million gallon underground concrete water storage tank with a flat tank cap that is less than 2’ above the ground’s surface. The 236’ diameter tank roof is flat, low to the ground and free of obstructions. The tank surface is near ground level which will reduce rigging costs and allow for access for maintenance, as needed. Robertsdale Pumping Station is served by Xcel Energy’s Commercial & Industrial Secondary General (SG) Service via account number 53-9615873-7. The site consumes approximately 2,330,000 kWh/year with a 650 kW peak demand. The annual electric spend is approximately $220,000. Preliminary assessment of this location indicate that the tank can accommodate approximately 360 kW DC of solar PV capacity and generate approximately 25% (544,400 kWh) of its annual electric needs. The City plans to pursue the Xcel Energy Solar*Rewards® Medium incentivize program. It is expected that the selected Proposer will work with Xcel Energy to confirm available funding, follow any project completion deadlines, and abide by all technical requirements required to participate in the incentive program. Aurora Water also intends on coupling the system installation with a utility rate switch to Xcel Energy’s Secondary Photovoltaic Time-of-Use Service (“SPVTOU”) rate for additional cost savings. PROJECT OVERVIEW Work will include solar photovoltaic (PV) engineering and construction services required to design and build a solar PV system located on the roof above an existing water Tank #1 at the City’s Robertsdale Pumping Station: 5800 S Powhaton Road, Aurora, CO 80016. Core Project Team: The core project team for the City includes representatives from the Public Works Department and the Aurora Water Department who will work closely with the successful Design Builder (“Proposer”).
