As of May 31, 2023, Riverhead has received a grant from Downtown Revitalization Investment (DRI). Details regarding project timelines and selected design teams are not yet finalized. A firm timeline for construction has not been established. A detailed scope has not been released. Plans call for purchasing and demolishing three buildings in the downtown area to clear space for the new town square, from Main Street to the Peconic River. The city will seek a $10 million state grant and issue a request for proposals to demolish three buildings.
