The contractor will be responsible for completing the inspection and regular hydrant maintenance of approximately 2,900 fire hydrants in the City of Suffolk. This service shall be performed in accordance with the American Water Works Association manual M17, Installation, Field Testing and Maintenance of Fire Hydrants. 2. The fire hydrants shall be inspected once between April 1, 2022 and October 31, 2022. 3. Scheduling and reporting will be coordinated through the Data Quality Control Technician of the Department of Public Utilities. The hydrants will be inspected in a predetermined sequence. The Data Quality Control Technician will provide all scheduling, and work production will be based on City Works generated inspection work orders. Average number of inspections per day should be approximately twenty to twenty five (20-25) in an eight (8) hour workday based on a one-man crew. Work schedule shall conform to that of the City of Suffolk Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., excluding City holidays. - 5 - 4. All repairs (hydrant replacement, dismantling, etc.) will be performed by the Department of Public Utilities, Line Maintenance Division. If a hydrant is found in need of repair, the Data Quality Control Technician will be notified indicating record location, time, reasoning and person reporting. 5. Contractor's vehicle must be clearly marked Hydrant Maintenance along with Company's Name and phone number on the outside of both side doors. 6. The contractor shall be responsible for obtaining all required work permits and for providing proof to the City of adequate public liability insurance. 7. The contractor shall be responsible for weed trimming and removal of weeds within a two foot (2') radius around each fire hydrant. 8. Contractor shall provide appropriate traffic control signing and/or flagmen in accordance with the local jurisdiction's regulations and the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual.
